Understanding Skin Types and Skincare

Received this interesting article on skincare which I would like to share it with you. It is very important for us to understand our own skin composition and functions to keep it radiant and healthy. This is also important to protect our skin from the harmful effects of the environment.

The skin, which is the largest organ of the human body, protects us from the harmful elements. It is made up of millions of cells, each continuously renews itself and undergoes metabolic functions daily.

Understanding Skin Types and Skincare

Differnt types of skin need to be cared for differently. Our skin can also be affected by external factors like temperature, seasonal and humidity. Therefore it is important to choose the right skincare method to avoid damage to your skin.

Oily Skin
- High moisture and oil content

- Pores are easily blocked and likely to cause pimples, blackheads, whiteheads or acne

Skincare method:
- Avoid oil-based skincare products other than makeup removers

- Use products that remove excess oil and reduce secretion
- Use pore-shrinking, pH-balanced skincare products

Dry Skin
- Lower moisture and oil content
- Skin feels dry and has no radiance
- Thin and tight skin. Wrinkles easily
- Sensitive to temperature and humidity levels, itchy and tendency to form eczema

Skincare method:
- Avoid excess cleansing, drink more water

Mixed Skin
- Mixed normal, dry and oily skin zones
- Oily T-zone
- Dry skin around the eye and cheek area

Skincare method:
- Apply the appropriate products for different zones
- Beware of moisture and oil inbalances from temperature and humidity changes
- Aside from the basic care, use whitening, moisturizing and revitalizing products on different zones
- Choose mild skincare products

Sensitive Skin
- Thinner skin. Visible capillaries
- Unhealthy skin tones. Susceptible to burns and rash
